Week 7 - Suter Art Gallery Trip

We visited the Suter Art Gallery to see the John Bevan Ford exhibition. We saw how he fills his pictures with designs. He does not colour in. Some parts of Maori legends were in his pictures. We filled in a manu with different designs. We are going to draw a background with chalk pastels to mount our manu on.

Rights for Everyone

We have identified and investigated lots of disabilities. We took a class vote and chose diabetes as the disability we would investigate further. Here are our research questions that we formulated.

How does it feel to have diabetes?

What sort of sickness might people with diabetes get?

How do people know if they have diabetes?

How do people get diabetes?

What sort of food can people eat if they have diabetes?

What happens to people who have diabetes?

Is there medicine or tablets to cure diabetes and if so, what type do doctors' use?

What are the different types of diabetes?

We are learning that people with disabilities have rights and feelings just like us. They can still do lots of things that we can do but some things might take them a little longer.

Term 3 Week 2

MAORI LANGUAGE WEEK

Elmars read us a story in Maori called Hohepa te Puru.

We played a Maori counting game.

We sang lots of waiata. We love singing Te Aroha!

Yesterday a blind person came to school. She was called Anne. She brought her guide dog. The guide dog was named Penny. She was fluffy. She was a labrador. She was white. Anne told us how she got blind. She got very sick. Before she got blind, she flew an aeroplane. Now that she is a blind person she can't fly a plane or drive a car. Penny was a nice dog. I can tell you. Penny is just a nice dog. Anne let us pat the dog as well.

Yesterday we saw a guide dog. The guide dog was cute. Anne owned the dog. Anne had a white cane. When Anne goes to the supermarket she needs to feel stuff. She has a watch that tells her the time.
